After five seasons and nearly 30 episodes as the no-nonsense Captain Renee Curry, Aimé Donna Kelly is officially leveling up. According to Deadline exclusive, the actress has been promoted to series regular on NBC’s Law & Order: Special Victims Unit ahead of its landmark 27th season, set to premiere this fall.

Kelly’s Curry, first introduced in 2020 as an officer with Internal Affairs, has since become a trusted figure within Captain Olivia Benson’s (Mariska Hargitay) unit. Her steady presence and sharp instincts have made her a key ally to the SVU team, and fans can now expect to see more of her on a regular basis.

This promotion comes as SVU, which isthe longest-running primetime live-action series in U.S. TV history prepares to return with familiar faces including Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, and Kevin Kane.

Created by Dick Wolf, the drama continues to follow the elite New York City detectives investigating cases of sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse. It remains a staple in the NBC lineup and a cornerstone of the Wolf Entertainment universe.

Behind the scenes, Michele Fazekas, Mariska Hargitay, Kenneth Brown, and Peter Jankowski serve as executive producers. The show is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in partnership with Wolf Entertainment.

Kelly’s promotion marks a major milestone in a career that’s been steadily on the rise. Most recently, she wrapped filming for The Greatest, the upcoming Prime Video series from Michael B. Jordan and showrunner Ben Watkins. In the biographical drama, Kelly takes on the role of Alberta Jones, the pioneering civil rights attorney who was one of the first to support a young Muhammad Ali in his boxing career.
