The Legend of Hanuman is rewriting the rulebook for Indian animation. The Sharad Devarajan-created mythological epic has climbed to the #6 spot on Ormax Media’s prestigious list of Top 50 Streaming Originals in India from January to June 2025. The milestone makes it the only animated show to feature on the chart, and a standout performer in a lineup dominated by live-action hits.
In its sixth season, the show is holding its ground among heavyweights like Criminal Justice: A Family Matter, Paatal Lok Season 2, Squid Game Season 3, and Panchayat Season 4—while ranking higher than several big-ticket titles, including The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3 and Black Warrant.
It’s also the #2 most-watched show on JioHotstar, a rare feat for animation and a testament to the show’s expanding fanbase across the country.
Released on 11 April, 2025, Season 6 has elevated The Legend of Hanuman to new heights. Available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Marathi, Malayalam and Kannada, the show continues to enjoy pan-India popularity. According to Ormax, Season 6 drew approximately 15.2 million viewers within its first three weeks, a dramatic rise from the 9.4 million who tuned in for Season 5.
Sharad Devarajan, the Co-Creator, Producer, and Showrunner, called the moment “profound” for Indian animation.
“To see The Legend of Hanuman Season 6 rank #6 across all streaming platforms and as the only animated series in the top 50 is a profound moment for Indian animation. This milestone proves that audiences across India are embracing animation as a sophisticated storytelling medium, not just a kids’ genre,” said Devarajan.
“When we first launched this series, our mission was to create a transcendent moment for Indian animation that would reshape how audiences perceive the medium—similar to how countries like Japan and Korea have always looked at animation as a medium and not a genre. The fact that Season 6 reached 15.2 million viewers and is standing alongside live-action giants like Criminal Justice, Panchayat and Paatal Lok, means that we’ve successfully moved animation from the margins to the mainstream.”
“Hanuman’s timeless story of courage, devotion, and inner strength continues to inspire billions, and through high-quality animation, we try to do justice to the visual grandeur and spiritual complexity that his mythic heroism deserves. This success belongs to the millions of fans who believed in our vision from day one and proves that India is ready for a golden age of animated storytelling.”
Directed by Jeevan J. Kang and Navin John, the sixth season continues the show’s signature blend of spiritual depth, high-end visuals, and emotionally resonant storytelling. Voice actors Daman Baggan and Sharad Kelkar return to their roles as Hanuman and Ravan respectively, with Kelkar’s powerful voice acting once again drawing wide praise.
With each new season, The Legend of Hanuman is not only raising the bar for Indian animation but also expanding the possibilities for the genre in the country’s entertainment mainstream.
