After more than three decades on air, E! News is coming to a close as a nightly linear television program. The long-running entertainment news show will air its final episode on 25 September, a source with direct knowledge confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter.
Launched in 1991, E! News became a pop culture staple, known for its red-carpet coverage, celebrity interviews, and daily entertainment updates. The show took a two-year break during the COVID-19 pandemic but returned to screens in 2022. Now, it’s shifting gears once again — this time, permanently.
Although the linear broadcast will end, E! News will continue as a digital-first brand.
Employees were informed of the cancellation on Thursday morning. According to THR, tonight’s episode will be a repeat, with fresh episodes resuming next week until the final broadcast in late September.
While some on-air talent and correspondents may stay on in new roles, a source noted their future positions within the network’s evolving structure are “TBD.”
This decision comes amid a major corporate restructuring at NBCUniversal, which has split its portfolio into two distinct entities. The NBC broadcast network, along with Bravo, Peacock, and NBC Studios, will remain under the NBCU umbrella. The rest—including E!, USA Network, Syfy, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, and the Golf Channel—will be folded into a newly formed company now officially named Versant (previously codenamed SpinCo).
Versant will also include digital properties like Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, and Golf Now. It will be led by CEO Mark Lazarus, alongside CFO and COO Anand Kini, and chairman David Novak. Additional leadership roles will be filled from NBCUniversal’s current executive ranks.
Despite the cancellation, E! as a cable channel isn’t disappearing. It will continue to air original programs like Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind and Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour. Upcoming titles include Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane and E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals. The network remains a major player in red carpet coverage, including broadcasts of the Critics Choice Awards in January.
