Resident Alien will wrap up its run after four seasons, reported Variety confirming that the fan-favorite sci-fi comedy has been cancelled by USA Network, with just three episodes remaining before the series finale.

The show originally premiered in 2021 on Syfy, where it ran for three seasons before making a network jump to USA earlier this year. Season 4 kicked off in June and will continue airing on Fridays, with the final episode slated for 8 August. Episodes are also available to stream on Peacock a week after broadcast.

Despite the cancellation, Resident Alien showrunner Chris Sheridan said the team was prepared to land the series on their own terms.

“I knew going into it that this was likely going to be our final season,” Sheridan told TV Insider, which first reported the news. “Creatively, that was exciting because I knew we could spend the time wrapping up some storylines and driving toward an ending. I’m so proud of how good Season 4 is and especially proud that we were able to finish as strongly as we did, with a finale that is probably my favorite episode of the series,” said Sheridan.

While the cancellation may disappoint fans, Sheridan assured them that the ending won’t leave them hanging. He said, “[The finale] gives the series a very satisfying ending while also leaving the door cracked open for any future this world may have. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

The series stars Alan Tudyk as a stranded alien sent to destroy humanity, who ends up posing as a small-town doctor and slowly develops a reluctant fondness for the people he’s supposed to annihilate. The ensemble cast includes Sara Tomko, Corey Reynolds, Alice Wetterlund, Levi Fiehler, Elizabeth Bowen, Judah Prehn, and Meredith Garretson.

Though Resident Alien may be headed for a close, its quirky humor and emotional storytelling have left an imprint and fans still have a few more episodes to say goodbye.
