Lionsgate has locked in a summer 2026 release date for Power Ballad, the upcoming music-fueled dramedy directed by John Carney and starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. The film will open in theaters on June 5, 2026.

Co-written by Carney and Peter McDonald, the story centers on Rick (Rudd), a wedding singer well past his prime, who crosses paths with Danny (Jonas), a once-famous boy-band star, during a gig. The two musicians connect over their shared love of music during a late-night jam session. But when Danny turns one of Rick’s songs into a career-reviving hit, Rick sets out to reclaim the credit he believes is rightfully his — even if it means risking everything that still matters to him.

The film, described as a feel-good musical journey about ambition, friendship, and second chances, also features Peter McDonald, Marcella Plunkett, Havana Rose Liu, and Jack Reynor in supporting roles. It is produced by Anthony Bregman, John Carney, Peter Cron, Rebecca O’Flanagan, and Robert Walpole.

Power Ballad will face strong competition at the box office, opening opposite Amazon MGM Studios’ Masters of the Universe from filmmaker Travis Knight, as well as Warner Bros. and Legendary’s hybrid live-action animated project Animal Friends.

The release joins an already packed slate for Lionsgate. Upcoming titles include I Wish You All the Best on November 7 through Lionsgate Premiere, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t on November 14, Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair on December 5, Paul Feig’s The Housemaid starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried on December 19, Greenland 2: Migration on January 9, 2026, I Can Only Imagine 2 on February 20, and Antoine Fuqua’s Michael, the Michael Jackson biopic, arriving April 24, 2026.
