Keyla Monterroso Mejia and Mo Amer have joined the cast of the second season of Bad Monkey, Apple TV+’s comedy executive produced by and starring Vince Vaughn, according to sources. Both actors have been cast in recurring roles, with character details being kept under wraps.
The duo joins a growing list of new additions previously announced for Season 2, including John Malkovich, Yvonne Strahovski, Zavior Phillips, Nate Jackson, Brent Morin, Peter Billingsley and June Diane Raphael. Meanwhile, Natalie Martinez, Charlotte Lawrence and John Ortiz are set to return.
Based on Bad Monkey by Carl Hiaasen and created by Bill Lawrence, the second season will tell a new original story, the specifics of which remain under wraps. The first season introduced audiences to Andrew Yancy, played by Vaughn, a former Miami police detective demoted to health inspector in the Florida Keys. After tourists discover a severed human arm, Yancy sees a chance to return to law enforcement—if he can navigate a case involving eccentric locals and one very problematic monkey.
Season 1 also starred L. Scott Caldwell, Rob Delaney, Meredith Hagner, Alex Moffat, Michelle Monaghan, Ronald Peet, Jodie Turner-Smith, with Ortiz appearing as a special guest star. Guest appearances included Zach Braff, Ashley Nicole Black, Scott Glenn and Lawrence in her television debut.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Bad Monkey is developed by Lawrence through his Doozer Productions banner. Lawrence serves as executive producer and showrunner alongside Jeff Ingold, Matt Tarses, Vaughn, Liza Katzer and Adam Sztykiel.
Monterroso Mejia gained widespread attention for her standout appearance opposite Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm, earning praise that led Quinta Brunson to cast her in Season 2 of the Emmy-winning Abbott Elementary. Her recent television credits include The Studio, Running Point and Acapulco, while film roles include Amazon MGM’s You’re Cordially Invited and Sony’s One of Them Days. She is represented by UTA, Artists First and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.
Amer, recently named among Deadline’s Comics Who Won 2025, is coming off his largest global stand-up tour to date, El Oso Palestino, which spanned more than 100 shows across four continents and sold 135,000 tickets. Last year, he released his third Netflix special Wild World and the second and final season of his semi-autobiographical series Mo, with both titles landing in Netflix’s Top 10.
