“Move and don’t look back.” With that urgent warning, Ryan Phillippe sets the tone in the newly released trailer for One Mile, a tense survival thriller that will debut in two parts later this month.

Developed under Paramount’s Republic Pictures label in collaboration with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, One Mile is structured as two interconnected films—One Mile: Chapter One and One Mile: Chapter Two — both scheduled for digital release on 20 February.

The film pairs Phillippe with Amélie Hoeferle, who plays his on-screen daughter, Alex. The story follows an estranged father and daughter who set out on college tours, only to lose their way and encounter a hostile, off-the-grid community in a remote region.

According to the official synopsis, “An ex-special forces operative (Phillippe) goes off-the-grid when his daughter (Hoeferle) is kidnapped by a violent community. Alone and outnumbered, he’s forced to use every skill he has to track them down, take them apart, and bring his daughter home.”

At one point in the trailer, Phillippe’s character, Danny said, “These guys don’t know it yet, but they messed with the wrong dad,” underscoring the film’s blend of emotional stakes and high-intensity action.

One Mile was written by John Hlavin, based on an idea by Jaiden Kaplan, the daughter of producer Aaron Kaplan. The script was later reworked by TJ Brady and Rasheed Newson, known for their work on Kapital’s Showtime series The Chi.

The project has personal roots. Jaiden Kaplan conceived the idea during a college tour with her father in 2019, while driving along an isolated highway in the northeastern United States, bordered by dense woods and half-frozen lakes. That experience later evolved into the foundation of the film. She also serves as a producer on the project.

The ensemble cast includes C. Thomas Howell, Richard Harmon, Sara Canning and Sage Linder.

Adam Davidson directs and produces the film, alongside Phillippe and Jaiden Kaplan. Aaron Kaplan and Michael Lohmann also produce on behalf of Kapital Entertainment.

Marketed as both a family drama and a survival thriller, One Mile positions itself as a high-concept, emotionally driven action story, anchored by a father’s determination to protect his child at all costs.
