Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar: The Revenge is already rewriting box office history ahead of its release, with unprecedented demand prompting theatres across India to introduce post-midnight screenings and near round-the-clock show schedules.

Following the success of Dhurandhar, anticipation for the sequel directed by Aditya Dhar has translated into record-breaking advance bookings. Reports indicate that over one million tickets have already been sold, with theatres adding extra shows to accommodate the surge. In several locations, cinemas have begun scheduling screenings well past midnight, which is an uncommon move for Indian film releases.

The film’s nearly four-hour runtime has added to the complexity for exhibitors. With trailers, interval and turnaround time included, each screening is estimated to take around four hours and forty minutes, limiting most theatres to about four shows per screen daily. Despite these constraints, demand has led to creative scheduling solutions.

In Mumbai and Thane, cinemas such as PVR Chakala and MovieMax Sion have introduced weekend shows starting as early as 1:50 AM and running through the day until approximately 11:30 PM across multiple screens. Other theatres, including MovieMax Thane and Connplex Cinemas, have also begun rolling out post-midnight screenings starting Thursday. While such schedules may not be feasible everywhere due to safety and operational concerns, several theatres across western and southern India are reportedly preparing to add late-night shows.

The scale of the film’s demand has also impacted longstanding exhibition traditions. At Mumbai’s iconic Maratha Mandir, which has screened Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge daily for three decades at its traditional 11:30 AM slot, the show timing has been shifted earlier to accommodate Dhurandhar 2. A similar adjustment had previously been made during the release of Pushpa 2, as confirmed by theatre owner Manoj Desai at the time.

The film has also set new benchmarks in advance ticket sales. It has surpassed the previous record of ₹25 crore held by Pawan Kalyan’s OG, with current advance bookings crossing ₹35 crore domestically. On the global front, Dhurandhar 2 has become the first Indian film to cross $5 million in pre-sales in North America, with worldwide advance booking collections exceeding ₹125 crore.

With its massive pre-release momentum, extended show schedules and record-breaking numbers, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is poised to deliver one of the biggest openings in recent Indian cinema history.
