The first images from Dune: Part Three have been unveiled, offering an early glimpse into the next chapter of the sci-fi franchise and teasing a noticeably transformed Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, alongside the introduction of Robert Pattinson’s new villain.
The images, released after Chalamet shared an intense close-up on social media, show his character in a Fremen stillsuit, with visible signs of aging including wrinkles around his eyes and red scarring, suggesting a significant shift from his earlier appearances in the first two films.
Additional first-look visuals released via the franchise’s official Instagram account feature Pattinson as the antagonist Scytale, as well as returning cast members including Zendaya as Chani, Jason Momoa as Hayt, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Florence Pugh as Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides and Isaach De Bankolé as Farok.
The images arrive ahead of the expected trailer launch later this week, which is anticipated to be attached to Project Hail Mary. The film, directed once again by Denis Villeneuve, is slated for a theatrical release on December 18, 2026.
Villeneuve has indicated that this instalment will be his final entry in the franchise, while also clarifying that he does not view the three films as a conventional trilogy. “It’s important that people understand that for me, it was really a diptych,” Villeneuve said in an interview with Vanity Fair. “It was really a pair of movies that will be the adaptation of the first book. That’s done and that’s finished. If I do a third one, which is in the writing process, it’s not like a trilogy. It’s strange to say that, but if I go back there, it’s to do something that feels different and has its own identity.”
The film sees several actors reprise their roles from earlier instalments, including Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh and Anya Taylor-Joy. Jason Momoa also returns after not appearing in the second film, while Pattinson joins the ensemble for the first time. The Dune franchise has been a major box office success, with the first two films collectively earning $1.1 billion worldwide, setting high expectations for the upcoming release.
