Joker has officially been awarded the Golden Lion Award for ‘best movie’ during the Venice Film Festival which took place on Saturday. The film showcasing the origin of the famed DC villain has been a huge success with critics when it had its debut at the 76th annual festival at the end of last month where it received an eight-minute standing ovation. The film was directed by Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoenix had the title role. Phillips was the one who graciously accepted the award and he thanked Phoenix and Warner Bros for making the film possible in the first place. He said, “I want to thank Warner Bros. and DC for stepping out of their comfort zone and taking such a bold swing on me and this movie. There is no movie without Joaquin Phoenix. Joaquin is the fiercest and brightest and most open-minded lion I know. Thank you for trusting me with your insane talent.” There are now hopes for the film that it will be in the running for the Academy Awards in February of next year.
