The original series of Dirty John took the world by storm when it aired on Netflix. Starring Eric Bana as the title role, it showed the true story of how quickly a relationship can go sour and made everyone fear internet dating more than they already did! We won’t reveal what happened at the end for those who haven’t seen it but we can reveal that it is back for a second series which will come to Netflix in 2020.
Despite the fact it’s called ‘Dirty John’, Dirty John won’t actually appear at all. The plot will centre the true story of Betty Broderick. The show will be set in the 60’s to the 80’s and Oprah deemed the relationship as one of ‘America’s messiest divorces’ even before it ended in double homicide. Yikes.
Christian Slater and Amanda Peet will be the new leads of the second series. Peet will be starring as Betty Broderick who is a classic Southern belle who married her college boyfriend Dan who is played by Slater. Dan wants to pursue his career in medicine but then transitioned to law school – all through which Betty supports him. However, when he hits the big time as a lawyer, she believes that all of their hardships are behind him. But she couldn’t be more wrong and fears erupt when Dan hires Linda – a new young woman who he desperately needs help with in his career.
Series creator Alexandra Cunningham says of the second series, “The first season of Dirty John was a story of twisted love and coercive control and both these insidious elements are also present in and integral to the story of Betty Broderick, whom I have wanted to write about since I became a writer. I can’t wait to see Amanda and Christian bring it to life.”
We will give more details as they arrive and you can bet we’ll be there on the release date to give our honest review!
