Shoojit Sircar On How Folk Puppets Inspired His Film GULABO SITABO

Director Shoojit Sircar speaks about inspiration for film Gulabo Sitabo, releasing on Amazon Prime Video

The highly anticipated film Gulabo Sitabo will be releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on 12th June 2020. The family friendly comedy will be available for fans from all over the world to enjoy in the safety and comfort of their own homes. 

The Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana starrertells the story of an old landlord, Mirza, and his tenant, Baankey. The two are equally sly and crafty, making for hilarious banter and playful chaos. The must watch film is directed by Shoojit Sircar, who has previously worked with both stars separately. The director will be uniting both actors on screen for the first time.   

The film title has been inspired by the folk puppets local to Uttar Pradesh. The puppet show features two puppets named Gulabo and Sitabo, and the show revolves around two rivals who often trade insults and funny digs. Speaking on his inspiration, Shoojit Sircar has said,

We came across the Gulabo-Sitabo form of puppetry while making the movie, and we decided it could be a good metaphor for the story”.
