MOGUL MOWGLI, co-written, produced by and starring Emmy award-winning actor Riz Ahmed, is the debut fiction feature from the award-winning documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq (These Birds Walk), who co-wrote the screenplay with Ahmed. It follows the story of Zed (Riz Ahmed), a British Pakistani rapper, who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an illness that threatens to derail his big break and forces him to face his past, his family, and the uncertainty of his legacy.

NEAR THE JUGULAR, a BFI Southbank and BFI Player season of films curated by Bassam Tariq and Riz Ahmed, which was curtailed at BFI Southbank due to cinemas closing under national restrictions, will now take place at the venue in January 2021. It features films that Bassam and Riz have found influential in their lives, and those that inspired MOGUL MOWGLI. The season includes titles such as FIRST REFORMED (Paul Schrader, 2017), THE THREE ROOMS OF MELANCHOLIA (Pirjo Honkasalo, 2004), A TASTE OF CHERRY (Abbas Kiarostami, 1997) and FOUR LIONS (Chris Morris, 2010), and is also available to UK-wide audiences via selected films on BFI Player now.
