Who doesn’t love a good superhero film? A film that is pure in its writing and has a mix of comedy, action and drama. Obviously, the first time we got to see this is in 2012’s The Avengers where each character brings something different to the story. Since then, ensemble superhero movies have been following this trait and the seems to be loved by the audience. In the sequel to Shazam!, we have a mixture of talents that drives the story forward and brings a unique idea to the story
Shazam! Fury of the Gods follows Billy (Zachary Levi/Asher Angel), Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) and their foster family as they return to fight the latest vengeful plot, this time a trio of sorceresses called the Daughters of Atlas, led by Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu), who want to avenge their father, Atlas.
Zachary Levi is, as always, hilarious as adult Billy Batson a.k.a Shazam. He’s a true chameleon as he convinces you that he is a teenager in an adult body. Asher Angel seems to provide the ‘voice of reason’ and it is interesting how these two intertwine so well. But the real talking point as to be the ladies; The Daughters of Atlas. Helen Mirren, Lucy Liu and Rachel Zegler show that women are not to be messed with. As with previous superheroes where the female characters are mostly known to be the ‘damsels in distress’. But not in this one.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods is so good and definitely a great watch!
