Top Indian wrestlers including Bajranj Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phoghat, and others are protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on charges of sexually exploiting women wrestlers.
It’s been six day since the wrestlers have began their second round of sit-in protest at Delhi Jantar Mantar demanding the arrest of WFI chief after seven women wrestlers accused Bhushan of sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.
Questions over delaying in registering the FIR against Bhushan are being raised by wrestlers who have demanded that the BJP MP be removed from all the positions he holds.
The protesting wrestlers also accused Delhi police for intimidating and asking them to end their agitation minutes after filing the FIR. Through an Instagram live, Bajranj Punia also alleged Delhi police for suspending food and water supply at Jantar Mantar and said that Delhi police is ‘putting the protesters under pressure after the Supreme Court notice to Delhi Police’.
He said, “Police said that if you want to protest, sleep on the road. What kind of pressure has come on them today, there was no such problem before, this has happened only because of the pressure of the Supreme Court”.
Responding to the allegations today, Brij Bhushan Singh said that he is ready to quit but not as an accused adding that he is ready to face the investigation as he has full faith in the judiciary.
Many political personalities including Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, AAP leader Atishi and Satya Pal Malik reached out to the protesting wrestlers and extended their support.
