Ted Kaczynski—the ‘Unabomber’ who committed 16 bombings from 1978 and 1995 that killed three people and injured 23 others —died in US prison cell.

Kaczynski was found dead in his cell in a North Carolina federal prison around 8 am. According to New York Times report, the formal cause of death has not been disclosed yet but sources said that the 81-year-old died by suicide.

Kaczynski was caught in 1996 with a tip of his brother tipped to FBI after his 35,000-word manifesto was published in 1995 in The Washington Post in conjunction with The New York Times, which claimed modern society and technology were leading to a sense of powerlessness and alienation, reported The Sky News

He was a Harvard-educated mathematician who changed the way Americans mailed packages and boarded airplanes with his deadly homemade bombs, even virtually shutting down air travel on the West Coast in July 1995, according to The Sky News report.

In 1998, he was sentenced to four life sentences, plus 30 years for the campaign of terror and since then he has been in prison.
