TV soaps to Emmy: Ektaa Kapoor to receive prestigious Directorate Award at 51st International Emmy Awards Gala

One of India’s biggest television personality Ektaa Kapoor, will soon be awarded with the Directorate Award at the upcoming 51st International Emmy Awards ceremony.

Announcing this big news, Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, said, “Ektaa R. Kapoor has built Balaji into one of India’s foremost entertainment players with market leadership in the television content industry reaching mass audiences across India and South Asia with their long running series and OTT platform. Kapoor took to Instagram to express her happiness, shared a picture and wrote, “Overflowing with humility and exhilaration as I receive this recognition. The award holds a cherished spot in my heart, symbolising a journey that transcends work. Representing my nation globally through this esteemed platform is an honour beyond words. Television has been my compass of self-discovery, especially as a woman crafting tales for women. This accolade empowers me to stand for them and our shared achievements on the global stage. Ektaa Kapoor is a name which needs no introduction in the Indian television industry. Kapoor is the daughter of famous Indian actors Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor. She has built an empire Balaji Telefilms, which was first started by her parents in 1994. Kapoor if not anything else then has built this into the single largest television content producer in South Asia alongside extending her wings into OTT platform as well.

With Balaji Telefilms, Kapoor has shaped and expanded the so-called Indian relationships with significant projection of mother-in-law, daughter-in-law relationships though her television productions. One of the most famous TV serials of Balaji Telefilms are “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi” with 1,833 episodes and Kahaani Ghar Ghar ki with 1661 episodes aired between 2000-2008 on Star Plus.

Kapoor was named among Fortune India’s 50 most powerful women in Asia and the only woman from the Indian television market listed in Variety500 which represents 500 most influential business leaders shaping the global media industry.

According to reports, Kapoor has created and produced more than 17,000 hours of television and 45 films under the Balaji banner.

The Directorate Award will be presented to Kapoor on 20th November in New York City.
