Akshay Kumar is back yet again in Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue which tells the story of the late Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill – the man who single-handedly saved 65 miners in a time-sensitive rescue mission. An untold tale of heroism, determination and fighting for what you believe in.
Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill (Akshay Kumar) is a mining engineer and a rescue trained officer, who takes in upon himself to rescue 65 miners who are trapped due to a blast that went wrong. He has 48 hours to rescue these miners and return them back to their families who are worried sick about their loved ones. Will Gill save the day?
Akshay Kumar delves into Jaswant’s character so deeply that you forget he is Akshay Kumar. The way he portrays Jaswant can make us believe that this is what he was really like and what he went through during the mission. Parineeti Chopra plays Nirdosh Kaur Gill, Jaswant Singh Gill’s wife, with such grace but it is a shame that her role wasn’t as fully-fledged as one would hope.
Nevertheless, director Tinu Suresh Desai executes the story with conviction that you are on the edge of your seats from the moment Jaswant learns about the trapped miners to his mission to save them. The story is steady-paced but full of suspense at the right places that gets you gripped.
All in all, Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue is the perfect tribute to the late and great Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill and he would be proud that his heroic moment has gone to the big screens.
