Hollywood pop singer Selena Gomez will portray Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic, according to Variety exclusive report. Gomez teased the role on Tuesday night by posting a picture of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir Simple Dreams on her Instagram story. According to reports, the music biopic is currently in pre-production with producers including Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, and James Keach, who produced the 2019 documentary “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice.” Details about the other cast of the biopic are yet to be announced. Linda Ronstadt is a legendary figure and is known for her contributions to country, rock ‘n’ roll, and Latin music. Her 1970s albums, “Heart Like a Wheel” and “Simple Dreams”, have not only achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success but also highlighted her remarkable versatility across various musical genres. Throughout her career, Ronstadt secured 11 Grammy Awards and received Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy, according to Variety. In 2019, a documentary directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman delved into Ronstadt’s nearly five-decade-long career, emphasizing her dominance in the country-rock genre. However, in 2011, Ronstadt made the poignant announcement of her retirement, attributing it to her inability to sing caused by progressive supranuclear palsy, initially misdiagnosed as Parkinson’s disease.
