Melissa Barrera, Indya Moore join pro-Palestinian protest during Sundance

The Sundance Film Festival saw several hundred Palestinian protesters taking to the streets, causing massive traffic unrest. Among the protestors were actors Melissa Barrera and Indya Moore. One could see the packed sidewalk with chants of “free Palestine” and “stop the genocide” echoing in the streets.

The entertainment industry, like other industries, has called on authorities for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas War.

Pose star Moore, who is in town for the festival premiere of Ponyboi, was heard as saying, ““I’m gay as — God forgive me — fuck. I love everybody. I love people. I have Israeli friends. I have Jewish friends. I have Palestinian friends. Everybody sees what’s happening. They all agree, there needs to be a ceasefire. Stop telling us to hate each other. Stop telling us they hate each other. They also know that the Palestinian children that have been murdered are not responsible for freeing the hostages right now. That’s just the truth, right? The children are innocent.”

With Barrera in the audience, Moore continued, “If you care about life, if you care about dignity, if you care about freedom, you care about the self-determination of everybody.”

Talking about how members of the LGBTQ community often face violent crimes in Palestine, Moore said, “This is about life. That’s why I’m here. I’m trans, right? It’s about love.” She then said, “Free Palestine is about equality for everybody.”

The protests, in front of Park City mainstay Main Street Pizza & Noodle, became obstacles for the attendees who were trying to make their way into the festival. Chrissy Teigen was seen walking toward the protest trailed by an entourage.

Barrera’s appearance comes after she was fired from the Scream franchise for her social media posts about the Israel-Gaza conflict.

The chants saw protestors calling on POTUS Joe Biden to end the US support of the conflict, with demonstrators chanting, “This November we’ll remember.” Signs read “Let Gaza live” and “de-platform Zionism” were displayed.

The protest is not affiliated with the Sundance Film Festival.
