Netflix unveiled the teaser trailer for the psychological thriller series Ripley, starring Andrew Scott as Patricia Highsmith’s title character. Ripley is an adaption of The Night Of’s Steve Zaillian. Originally, the series was set at Showtime but was moved to the streamer ahead of Showtime’s integration into Paramount+. Netflix has set an April 4 premiere date for the drama. Ripley is based on Highsmith’s bestselling novels and revolves around Scott’s Tom Ripley, a grifter scraping by in early 1960s New York, who is hired by a wealthy man to travel to Italy to try to convince his vagabond son to return home. Tom’s acceptance of the job is the first step into a complex life of deceit, fraud and murder. The series will also feature Dakota Fanning, who will be playing the character of Marge Sherwood, along with Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf. Additional cast includes Elliot Sumner, Maurizio Lombardi, Margherita Buy with John Malkovich. Zaillian not only will be directing the show but will also executive produce all eight episodes. Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Ben Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel of Diogenes will also executive produce. Scott will serve as a producer on the series. Ripley is co-produced by Showtime and Endemol Shine North America in association with Entertainment 360 and Filmrights.
