“Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” – when these words aired on October 11, 1975, it changed television history forever. Bringing the behind-the-scenes of the famous and the first-ever SNL, Jason Reitman is all set to put the big screen on fire. The picture, which is gaining a lot of momentum, has finalised Gabriel LaBelle to play the character of Lorne Michaels.
SNL 1975 is based on real-life behind-the-scenes accounts of the NBC late-night show and what went about in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of SNL. The movie will be depicting the chaos that unfolded in real-time to the infamous words “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
The script, based on an extensive series of interviews with all the living cast, writers, and crew, is written by Reitman and Gil Kenan.

Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels: The movie will mark the first major studio for LaBelle since his breakout role as the lead of Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical 2022 film The Fabelmans. Courtesy of his role, he earned magnificent reviews and is ready to portray yet another legendary figure on the big screen. LaBelle is represented by CAA, Play Management, Canopy Media Partners, Sloane Offer Weber Dern and Viewpoint.
Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol: For Hoffman, his breakthrough character was in Paul Thomas Anderson’s film Licorice Pizza. On the back of that, he earned Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations. He also won the National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance. Hoffman is represented by CAA and Robert F. Marshall at Greenberg Glusker.
Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster: In her most recent project, Sennott was seen opposite Ayo Edebiri in MGM’s Bottoms, which she also co-produced and co-wrote with Emma Seligman. Her credits also include HBO’s The Idol and A24’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. Her upcoming projects include starring in Prime Video’s thriller Holland, Michigan. Sennott is represented by WME, Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment, The Lede Company and Yorn Levine Barnes.
Ella Hunt as Gilda Radener: Hunt is best known for her role in the Apple series Dickinson. She was most recently seen in Sony’s 3000 Pictures and Netflix adaptation of the D.H. Lawrence novel Lady Chatterley’s Lover, and in the Amazon Studios drama Master. Her next project is a four-part Western film Horizon: An American Saga co-written, produced, directed by and starring Kevin Costner. Hunt is represented by UTA, United Agents and Viewpoint.
Emily Fairn as Laraine Newman: In her most recent project, Fairn starred opposite Martin Freeman in BAFTA-nominated The Responder for BBC One. In her next project, she will star in Sky Atlantic and AMC’s Mary and George, and in Jack Thorne’s feature film Joy. Fairn is represented by Joshua Woodford at Hamilton Hodell.
Kim Matula as Jane Curtin: Matula featured in the Fox comedy LA To Vegas, and appeared in Lifetime‘s UnReal. On the feature side, she has worked with Stephen Merchant in MGM’s Fighting with My Family, opposite Florence Pugh, Vince Vaughn, Nick Frost, and Dwayne Johnson. She also starred in the independent comedy feature Tappawingo. Matula is represented by Innovative Artists and Ethos Entertainment.
Lamorne Morris as Garrett Morris: Morris is presently seen as North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr in FX’s fifth season of Noah Hawley’s Fargo. He recently joined the cast of Netflix’s Unstable for Season 2 alongside Rob Lowe. Prior to these roles, he headlined the hybrid live-action/animated Hulu series Woke, drawing inspiration from the life and art of cartoonist Keith Knight. Morris is skillfully represented by CAA, Entertainment 360, and Myman Greenspan Fox Rosenberg Mobasser Younger & Light.
Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd:
O’Brien’s latest appearance was in Ponyboi, premiering in the U.S. Dramatic Competition at this month’s Sundance Film Festival. Next up, catch him in the upcoming feature films Caddo Lake, helmed by Logan George and Celine Held and produced by M. Night Shyamalan, and Anniversary, a thrilling venture alongside Diane Lane, Kyle Chandler, Zoey Deutch, and Phoebe Dynevor. Recently, he took on the role of Varian Fry in Anna Winger’s limited series Transatlantic, alongside Gillian Jacobs and Corey Stoll for Netflix. Additionally, Smith collaborated with Haynes on Carol, portraying private investigator Tommy Tucker, and Wonderstruck. He is represented by Circle of Confusion.
Matt Wood as John Belushi: Wood made his mark in the original Broadway cast of SpongeBob SquarePants and embodied the iconic Augustus Gloop in the Broadway First National Tour of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. On the small screen, he’s been featured in shows like Law and Order: SVU, Instinct, and Difficult People. Wood is represented by BRS/Gage Talent Agency.
