Hollywood director Taika Waititi in a recent interview had high praise for Remo D’Souza’s ABCD: Any Body Can Dance. He also shared how Satyajit Ray’s film Pather Panchali’ inspired him in his movie-making journey.

ABCD was a dance film starring Prabhu Deva, Kay Kay Menon, Lauren Gottlieb, Punit Pathak, Dharmesh and Salman Yusuff Khan. The film had a sequel which was released in 2015. Many of the viewers drew parallels with the ‘Step-Up’ franchise.

Waititi is known for his films like Thor Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit among others. Speaking about Indian cinemas, Waititi told India Today: “Of course, the Satyajit Ray film Pather Panchali. It was beautiful and very inspirational when I was making my early films.”

“Next is the fabulous ABCD which is a fantastic big film which I think everyone should watch,” he quickly said.

After having directed the much acclaimed ‘Thor Ragnarok’, Waititi was brought back to direct ‘Thor Love & Thunder,’ which received mixed responses at the BO.

In a past interview with Deadline, Waititi had said that he only took up the ‘Thor Ragnarok’ project purely for financial reasons and had “no interest” in directing the Chris Hemsworth-starring movie.

While Ragnarok enjoyed massive success, the same could not be repeated with Love & Thunder.

After the release of his 2022 film, he told Business Insider that he won’t be involved with Thor 5.

Waititi’s last directorial, Next Goal Wins, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023 will be released Indian theatres on February 2.

Waititi has previously won an Oscar award for Best Adapted Screenplay for his 2019 film Jojo Rabbit.
