The first look of Sanjay Leela Banshali’s ‘Heeramandi’ was released on Thursday by Netflix on social media platforms. “Here’s your first look at legendary Indian creator Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s first series EVER: Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar!,” read the post shared by Netflix on X. The first look revealed the cast of the series included actor Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sanjeeda Sheikh and Sharmin Segal. ‘Heeramandi’ is Bhansali’s first-ever series, and is expected to create a larger-than-life world of Bhansali. Bhansali is the creator and the director of the series that is based on the courtesans of Lahore and the life of a red-light district in undivided India. Bhansali in his debut series project will once again create magic and love and betrayal within the lives of courtesans against the backdrop of pre-independence India. The makers released a statement saying that “Heeramandi” will be a reflection of Bhansali’s unique storytelling narrative. “As with all of Bhansali’s creations, the series is set to feature distinctive compositions and music that will linger with the audience, ensuring an immersive experience that transcends the screen. “Heeramandi” is poised to be a captivating journey into a bygone era, blending history, emotion, and the visual splendor that defines Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s cinematic legacy,” read the statement. The storyline promises to be a mix of love, betrayal, succession, and political intrigue within the intricate world of kothas (houses of courtesans). The official streaming date is yet to be announced but the show is expected to release in 2024 on Netflix.
