Darts has emerged as the go-to activity for hopeful romantics for their first dates, thanks to the recent surge in popularity of the sport, reveals new research by Sky Sports.

With wonder kid Luke ‘the nuke’ making waves in the PDC World Darts Championship, darts has gained millions of new fans, reshaping the dating landscape.

Sky Sports conducted a survey to understand the dating phenomenon and revealed a shift in dating dynamics and preferences among singles. According to the survey, more than half of hopeful romantics now view darts as the perfect first-date activity, eager to test their skills and enjoy a fun-filled experience.

The “Luke Littler effect” has sparked a trend dubbed “dart-ing into romance,” with 53% of individuals expressing enthusiasm for a game of darts as a first-date option. Activity-based dates, including darts and mini-golf, have surged in popularity, surpassing conventional choices like attending live performances or exploring museums.

Moreover, the survey highlights the importance of shared interests in fostering romantic connections, with a staggering 73% of respondents believing that a mutual love for sports could serve as a strong foundation for a relationship. As a result, many singles are taking proactive steps to prepare for activity-based dates, with 4 in 10 admitting to practicing beforehand to make a favorable impression.

Speaking about the research, Helen Falkus, Sky Sports Director of Multi Sports, said, “There is something truly epic about how sport brings people together, making it no surprise that sharing a game or cheering on your team is seen as the perfect foundation for a relationship. I am super excited to see the younger crowd getting hooked on darts as we gear up for the entertainment of Premier League Darts on Sky Sports from 1 February. It’s going to be a wild ride!”

From 1st February, fans can catch Luke ‘the nuke’ Littler and other top darts stars in action every week with the 2024 BetMGM Premier League Darts, airing exclusively live on Sky Sports. The 17-week season will feature eight of the sport’s top players, including Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Michael van Gerwen, and more, competing in thrilling matchups. Each league night will showcase quarter-finals, semi-finals, and a final over the best of 11 legs.
