Indian musicians Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain’s fusion band ‘Shakti’ made a significant success at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards by winning Best Global Music Album for their work on “This Moment”.

The renowned tabla player Zakir Hussain secured the Grammy for Best Global Music Performance for his contribution to “Pashto,” alongside Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia on flute.

The premiere ceremony of the Grammy Awards that took place in Los Angeles, California, witnessed Hussain’s notable win, marking his third Grammy achievement.

Rakesh Chaurasia, celebrated for his flute playing, also added to his accolades with a total of two Grammy victories. These achievements underscore the growing recognition of Indian musicians on the global stage, reaffirming their talent and contributions to the world of music.

Grammys shared the news with a picture on their official X account, where Mahadevan and another member of the band, Ganesh Rajagopalan, can be seen accepting the award on stage. The post read, “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – ‘This Moment’ Shakti. #GRAMMYs”.

Mahadevan in his acceptance speech said, “Thank you boys. Thank you God, family, friends, and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not the least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”

‘This Moment’ was released in June last year, featuring eight tracks crafted by a collective musician including John McLaughlin on guitar synth, Zakir Hussain on tabla, Shankar Mahadevan as vocalist, V Selvaganesh as percussionist, and Ganesh Rajagopalan on violin. Their collaborative effort earned them a Grammy nomination alongside artists such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido.
