Filmmaker Tyler Perry has expanded his creative partnership with Netflix, securing a multi-year first-look series deal with the streaming giant. The announcement comes as Perry continues to solidify his presence in the entertainment industry.

Under the agreement, Perry will write, direct, and produce series exclusively for Netflix. The inaugural series unveiled as part of this collaboration is ‘Beauty in Black,’ a gripping hour-long drama comprising 16 episodes.

‘Beauty in Black’ delves into the lives of two women, Kimmie and Mallory, who led starkly contrasting lives. While Kimmie navigates the challenges of making ends meet after being estranged from her mother, Mallory thrives in her successful business. Their paths unexpectedly intertwine, leading to a compelling exploration of their interconnected lives.

Joining Tyler Perry in the production are Angi Bones and Tony Strickland, further enhancing the creative powerhouse behind the series.

This new deal marks an expansion of the collaboration between Perry and Netflix, which was initially established in 2023. Under the previous agreement, Perry focused on writing, directing, and producing feature films. Notable projects from this partnership include ‘Six Triple Eight,’ featuring Kerry Washington, and ‘Mea Culpa,’ starring Kelly Rowland.

Perry’s impressive track record with Netflix includes a diverse range of films, from the heartfelt drama ‘A Jazzman’s Blues’ to the uproarious comedy ‘A Madea Homecoming,’ continuing the beloved Madea franchise.
