Sony taps Margot Robbie, Colin Farrell’s ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ in EFM deal

Sony Pictures has secured the worldwide rights to ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,’ a fantasy romance featuring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, marking the first significant acquisition at the European Film Market in Berlin, according to a Deadline report.

Directed by Kogonada—known for his work on the acclaimed TV series ‘Pachinko’ and the thought-provoking sci-fi drama ‘After Yang’—the film boasts a script penned by Seth Reiss, writer of ‘The Menu’.

Following ‘Barbie’s’ success, which she also produced, Margot Robbie takes on the protagonist role in ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’. While details of the plot are closely guarded, the film promises to deliver an imaginative narrative centered around two strangers and the extraordinary emotional bond that unites them. Production is scheduled to commence this spring in California.

The movie is produced by Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, and Ryan Friedkin, in collaboration with Seth Reiss and Youree Henley. Executive producers include Kogonada, Ilene Feldman, and Ori Eisen from Original Films. Financing for the project is provided by 30West.

“Every once in a great while in this job you read a script so special and original, that you fly to the last page, inspired and uplifted,” Tom Rothman, chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, said in a statement.

Expressing his enthusiasm for Seth Reiss’s script, Rothman said that ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ is a “project from heaven” highlighting the collaboration with director Kogonada and the perfect cast of Colin Farrell and Margot Robbie, along with top-tier producers Bradley Thomas, Dan Friedkin, and Ryan Friedkin.

“We believe the audience is desperate for originality and we feel honored and grateful to all involved to have won out for it,” added Rothman.
