Emmy nominee Mckenna Grace, known for her roles in “Ghostbusters” and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” is set to star in and executive produce the upcoming psychological thriller “Straight Lies.” The film will be directed by Alex Kalymnios, with Mandalay Pictures producing it. According to a report, the filming is scheduled to commence this summer in North Carolina. Set in 1990 amidst the fervor of the war on drugs, “Straight Lies” follows the story of a teenage girl falsely accused of drug use. Held captive in a cult-like drug rehabilitation center supported by the US Government, she must find a way to escape. Meanwhile, her father, a covert CIA agent, becomes entangled in political machinations, oblivious to the peril his daughter faces. Penned by Ren Trella and inspired by true events from her own adolescence, the screenplay for “Straight Lies” was recognized as a semi-finalist in the esteemed Academy Nicholl Fellowship in screenwriting. Mckenna Grace talked about the project to Deadline, saying, “I am so honored to bring this compelling story to the screen. After speaking with our amazing writer Ren and hearing her true story of what she endured and based the script, I knew this was going to be a heartbreaking, but necessary project to make”. Mandalay Pictures and Valor Media Group team up to produce, with David Zelon leading for Mandalay. Financing by Unity Entertainment and Princess Gates Entertainment.
