Netflix has announced its latest series, “The Royals,” starring Indian actors Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead roles. The show promises to be a modern-day royal romance filled with wit, humor, and a clash of contrasting worlds. Veteran actress Zeenat Aman will also make her debut on Netflix with a special appearance, adding a touch of classic Bollywood glamour to the series. The Royals explores the dynamic between an entitled Prince Charming, portrayed by Khatter, and a driven startup entrepreneur, played by Pednekar. This project marks Pednekar’s first foray into series, following her success in films like “Dum Laga Ke Haisha,” “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha,” and “Pati Patni Aur Who”. Khatter, known for his roles in “Beyond the Clouds,” “Dhadak,” and the British miniseries “A Suitable Boy,” will bring his unique charm to the role of the prince. Produced by Pritish Nandy and created by Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy, “The Royals” also features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny. The series is directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana. Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, shared her excitement for the series, said, “Everybody loves a good romance. The Royals is a modern-day regal romance with a spectacular setting and a dazzling cast.” Bami also highlighted the show’s blend of humor and romance, which is characteristic of Rangita and Ishita Nandy’s storytelling style. The creators, Rangita and Ishita Pritish Nandy, expressed their enthusiasm for their first collaboration with Netflix, said, “The Royals being our very first with Netflix had to be just the right blend of coming-of-age-India, Gen Z storytelling, and feisty fun!” “The Royals” is expected to blend romance, ambition, and the allure of a regal lifestyle.
