Annette Bening will be honored with the prestigious Icon Award at this year’s Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, set to take place from 30th October to 5th November. The acclaimed actress will receive the award during the festival’s opening ceremony on the opening day of the festival, which she is likely to attend. In celebration of her decades long career, Bening will introduce a special screening of “The Grifters” (1990), the film that earned her first Academy Award nomination. The screening will be followed by a discussion, offering attendees the chance to hear from the star about her experience on the film that launched her into Hollywood’s elite. Bening’s illustrious career spans both screen and stage, with accolades including a BAFTA Award, two Golden Globes, and two Tony Award nominations. She is best known for her roles in “Bugsy” (1991) alongside husband Warren Beatty, “American Beauty” (1999), and “Being Julia” (2004), which won her a Golden Globe for Best Actress. Her Oscar nominations continued with performances in “The Kids Are All Right” (2010) and more recently, for her portrayal of swimmer Diana Nyad in Netflix’s biographical film “Nyad” (2023). On stage, she has received critical acclaim for roles in “King Lear,” “The Cherry Orchard,” “Hedda Gabler,” and “Medea.” Her most recent Tony nomination came from her role in “All My Sons” on Broadway. Festival Director Sandra Lipski expressed her excitement, said, “Annette Bening is an acting legend, the epitome of the Evolution ICON Award and we are thrilled that she’ll be coming to Palma, Mallorca this October to be honored for her rich body of work. We look forward to giving her the warmest of receptions on the island, and for our festival attendees to feel inspired by Annette’s career and her relentless, restless talent.” Now in its 13th year, the Evolution Mallorca International Film Festival, founded by filmmaker and Mallorca-native Sandra Lipski, remains one of the longest-running film festivals in Palma de Mallorca.
