MGM+ has officially renewed Billy the Kid for an eight-episode third and final season, set to premiere in 2025. The hit series, starring Tom Blyth, has become one of the platform’s most-watched original shows, and its final season promises to conclude the dramatic saga of America’s most infamous outlaw. The story picks up after the end of the Lincoln County War, but Billy the Kid’s journey is far from over. Still at large, he faces a relentless pursuit from Sheriff Pat Garrett, who is determined to capture him dead or alive. A bounty on his head gives Billy the chance to leave New Mexico and start a new life with Dulcinea, his true love. However, unresolved tensions with Garrett, who betrayed him, compel Billy to stay. Meanwhile, his former friend and rival, Jesse Evans, lingers in Lincoln, seeking redemption. The series, created and written by Michael Hirst, will bring the outlaw’s story to a gripping conclusion. “In Season Three, we are excited to bring the naturally cinematic story of one of American history’s most fascinating, and often misunderstood, characters to its conclusion, as only MGM+ can,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. The show’s creator, Hirst, expressed his excitement for the final chapter, said, “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to write the third and final season of Billy the Kid and bring this compelling saga to a close. Billy was famous for many things, not least his ability to escape from seemingly impossible situations. But now, as the Most Wanted Man in America, the odds are truly stacked against him.” The third season will be produced by Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Amblin Television and De Line Pictures. Executive producers Michael Hirst, Donald De Line, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey will return to bring the epic romantic adventure to its thrilling conclusion.
