Nearly two decades after its original release, Yash Chopra’s timeless romantic drama Veer-Zaara continues to entertain movie lovers worldwide. The iconic film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Preity Zinta, has crossed the impressive Rs 100 crore mark at the global box office, following its 2024 re-release.

The cross-border love story, which first struck a chord with audiences in 2004, made a strong comeback during its re-release. Last week, Veer-Zaara earned Rs 1.80 crore, drawing a significant number of viewers despite competition from recent films. Shown in just 203 cinemas across India, the film has still managed to pull in fans, both new and old, who are eager to experience the magic again.

One major factor contributing to the film’s success was National Cinema Day, celebrated on September 20, when tickets were priced at just Rs 99. This special occasion helped boost ticket sales, allowing many moviegoers to either revisit the beloved classic or watch it for the first time.

The box office figures from the second week of Veer-Zaara‘s re-release have been particularly impressive. The film grossed Rs 22 lakhs on its second Friday, outperforming its first Friday’s earnings. During its first week, the film brought in a total of Rs 1.55 crore, with daily collections of Rs 20 lakhs on Friday, Rs 32 lakhs on Saturday, and Rs 38 lakhs on Sunday, followed by strong weekday performances.

In the second week, Veer-Zaara continued to perform exceptionally well, adding Rs 93 lakhs to its total with just 202 cinemas screening the film. This brings its re-release collection to Rs 2.48 crore.

Directed by the legendary Yash Chopra, Veer-Zaara stars Shah Rukh Khan as Veer Pratap Singh, an Indian Air Force officer, and Preity Zinta as Zaara Hayaat Khan, the daughter of a prominent Pakistani politician. Their love story begins when Veer saves Zaara during a trip to India, where she is fulfilling her surrogate mother’s last wish. Despite their deep connection, they are separated by fate, and Veer is later imprisoned in Pakistan on false charges.
