Netflix drops trailer of action thriller “The Shadow Strays” teases dark suspense and intense fight choreography

What lengths would you go to for a friend in danger?—that’s the question The Shadow Strays trailer poses as it sets the stage for a high-octane, suspenseful rescue mission. Directed by Timo Tjahjanto, the action-packed film follows 13 (Aurora Ribero) as she embarks on a perilous mission to save a young boy, Monji (Ali Fikry), from the clutches of a powerful crime syndicate.

Known for his signature violent, gory action films like The Night Comes for Us and The Big 4, Tjahjanto delivers his trademark intensity in this latest production, ensuring fans of his work won’t be disappointed. The Shadow Strays also boasts strong female leads in 13 and Umbra (Hana Malasan), with the director emphasizing his belief that “action is genderless.”

The film’s action sequences, which blend Indonesian martial arts silat with other combat styles, have been crafted by stunt choreographers Muhammad Irfan and Trisna Irawan, who have previously worked on major films like The Raid and Star Wars: The Force Awakens. “We wanted to show the beauty of the choreography but also its violence,” they said of their approach.

For Aurora Ribero, who is taking on her first action role, preparation was no small feat. She trained intensely for four months to meet the demands of her character, 13. Reflecting on the grueling experience, she shared, “I think this is one of the bravest things I have done in my life. The first two months were hard, and I felt so lost in the beginning. We all knew this would be a long and difficult journey, but we helped one another and worked hard. The energy on set was always amazing.”

While The Shadow Strays promises plenty of brutality and intense fight scenes, it also offers moments of vulnerability, touching on deeper emotions. “The Shadow Strays talks about having this feeling of love and having to express it. That’s the heart of the story,” Tjahjanto explains.

Audiences can expect an adrenaline-fueled ride when The Shadow Strays premieres on 17^th October, exclusively on Netflix.
