Prime Video has released first-look images of The Sticky, a dark comedy series based on the infamous “Great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist” set to premiere on 6th December, 2024, in over 240 countries and territories.

The six-episode series (6×30) centers around Ruth Landry, a no-nonsense, middle-aged maple syrup farmer played by three-time Emmy winner Margo Martindale, who turns to crime when bureaucratic forces threaten her livelihood. Teaming up with a hot-tempered Bostonian mobster and a mild-mannered French-Canadian security guard, Ruth hatches a plan to pull off a multi-million dollar heist targeting Quebec’s maple syrup reserves.

Adding to the star power, Oscar and Emmy winner Jamie Lee Curtis makes a guest appearance in the series and serves as an executive producer. Curtis commented on her involvement, saying: “It’s a wild ride of a story, and to bring it to life with such a talented cast and team has been an incredible experience.”

The series is inspired by the real-life 2012 maple syrup heist that shocked the world when over $18 million worth of syrup was stolen from Quebec’s national reserves. Blending cultural clashes with high-stakes excitement and moments of deep emotion, The Sticky promises to bring a unique mix of humor and drama.

Produced by Blumhouse Television, Jamie Lee Curtis’ Comet Pictures, Jonathan Levine’s Megamix, and Sphere Media, The Sticky is helmed by showrunners and writers Brian Donovan and Ed Herro. The series also counts Jonathan Levine, Jason Blum, Chris McCumber, Jeremy Gold, and Lauren Grant among its executive producers.

This latest addition to Prime Video’s slate of Canadian content joins titles like The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, Three Pines, and The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith. Since 2015, Amazon MGM Studios and MGM Television have commissioned more than 40 series and films shot across Canada, including The Boys, Reacher, The Handmaid’s Tale, and Tales from the Loop.
