Prime Video has released the trailer for Citadel: Honey Bunny, the Indian installment of its global Citadel spy universe, according to Variety exclusive report. Featuring Varun Dhawan and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, the series promises an adrenaline-packed experience, full of high-octane action and espionage. Set to premiere globally on 7th November, Citadel: Honey Bunny marks the first collaboration between India’s leading creators, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK (Raj & DK), and Hollywood’s Russo Brothers (Avengers: Endgame).
The Indian chapter, set in the 1990s, follows Bunny (Dhawan), a stuntman, and Honey (Samantha), a struggling actress, as they are pulled into the dangerous world of espionage. Alongside them are stars Kay Kay Menon, Simran, and Saqib Saleem, further adding to the ensemble cast.
Raj & DK, known for their hit series The Family Man, which also starred Samantha in its second season, serve as showrunners and directors. On the significance of this project, they expressed their excitement, said, “Citadel: Honey Bunny is a significant project for us as it has given us the opportunity to be part of a larger, unprecedented world of spies and espionage that has never been done or even attempted before.” They further added that working with the Russo Brothers and other global creators made it a “valuable creative experience.”
Varun Dhawan, who plays Bunny, shared his excitement about taking on such a complex role. He said, “Bunny is unlike any role I’ve played before. As a spy, he not only leads a double life, but every aspect of his personality has two distinct sides, which was very exciting for me as an actor.” He emphasized the physical and mental preparation required for the action-packed scenes, calling it one of his “most challenging performances yet.”
Samantha, who plays Honey, described the role as one of the most significant in her career. She said, “The opportunity to be part of an action-packed entertainer with a gripping storyline, rich character depth, and intense hand-to-hand combat and stunts that rival international standards drew me to this project.”
Nikhil Madhok, head of originals at Prime Video India, praised the showrunners, stating that Raj & DK had “added their signature quirk and charm to this high-octane spy thriller,” promising a thrilling ride for audiences.
Citadel: Honey Bunny is part of a larger franchise that began with the original Citadel series, starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, which became one of Prime Video’s most-watched series outside the US Following its success, the franchise is expanding with this Indian series, an Italian spin-off titled Citadel: Diana, and more international versions planned.
