In a surprising announcement, rap icon T.I. revealed he is stepping away from the stage for good. After decades of success, the 44-year-old artist declared that his final performance will be at Atlanta’s 96.1 The Beat Jingle Ball on 19th December, marking the end of an illustrious career in live music.

Speaking candidly in an interview on the radio station on 10th October, T.I.—whose real name is Clifford Joseph Harris—shared the reasoning behind his decision. He said, “I appreciate y’all for offering me my last working gig because I do not need the money anymore and I will not be performing. I don’t want to do it anymore.”

The rapper, known for hits like Live Your Life and Whatever You Like, joked that he’s no longer interested in “hopping around and sweating” for the crowd’s entertainment. His recent victory in a high-profile lawsuit appears to have solidified his choice to call it quits. T.I. and his wife, Tiny (Tameka Dianne Cottle-Harris), were awarded a whopping $71 million after winning a case against MGA Entertainment, the creators of the popular L.O.L. Surprise! O.M.G. dolls.

The lawsuit centered around claims that MGA Entertainment had infringed on the intellectual property of the couple’s music group, the OMG Girlz. A jury ruled in favor of T.I. and Tiny, validating their accusations. Reflecting on the verdict, T.I. said, “I think justice was served. I think it’s a testament to the relentlessness and resilience of my wife, daughter, and nieces. We’re just happy we were able to come out on top and fight for creatives and our intellectual property.”

According to reports, T.I. has no plans to return to the stage, even if longtime collaborators like the Pimp Squad Click (PSC) come calling. “Of course,” he joked when asked if he’d be supporting his group. “I’m going to answer the phone to tell them that I will not be performing,” he said in his interview.

As T.I. prepares to retire from performing, he leaves behind a legacy in the rap industry.
