Pathé is bolstering its film library with the acquisition of five key titles from London-based production company Celador Films, including the Oscar-winning Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle, reported Variety exclusively. The agreement builds on a long-standing collaboration between Pathé and Celador, which has seen the two companies partner on the development, production, and global sales of various films, including Slumdog Millionaire. The deal, which marks a significant addition to Pathé’s collection, also includes Neil Marshall’s action-packed Centurion, Jon Harris’s horror hits The Descent and The Descent Part 2, and Tom Harper’s coming-of-age drama The Scouting Book for Boys. “We are thrilled to welcome these acclaimed titles, which have achieved both commercial success and prestigious awards recognition, into the Pathé library,” said Ardavan Safaee, president of Pathé. “We look forward to maximizing their potential and ensuring they continue to captivate audiences for years to come,” Safaee added. Paul Smith, founder of Celador Films, reflected on the successful partnership between the two companies: “Throughout the majority of the existence of Celador Films, Pathé has acted efficiently and successfully as distributor in the UK and France and sales agent in the rest of the world for almost all of the titles produced by Celador Films.” Smith further noted that the new agreement is “a testament to this relationship, forged over many years, that we entrust Celador Films to their stewardship.” Pathé is already enjoying a good year, with several high-profile releases making waves both critically and commercially. This includes The Count of Monte Cristo, which has become the second-highest-grossing French-language film of 2024 with nearly 9 million tickets sold, and Jacques Audiard’s crime musical Emilia Perez, which is representing France in this year’s Oscar race. Both films are set to compete at the upcoming American French Film Festival.
