Signature Entertainment has acquired the rights to distribute the upcoming thriller The Absence of Eden in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Africa. The film, which stars Zoe Saldaña and is executive produced by Martin Scorsese, was sold by The Exchange, marking a significant addition to Signature’s slate.

Directed by Marco Perego in his feature debut, The Absence of Eden intertwines the narratives of an ICE agent, portrayed by Garrett Hedlund, wrestling with ethical conflicts around border enforcement, and an undocumented woman, played by Saldaña, striving to escape a cartel’s grasp. Adria Arjona also stars in this timely thriller, co-written by Perego and Rick Rapoza, whose script was recently added to the AMPAS Library’s permanent collection.

“This fast and action-packed film takes on a very current subject matter, with such impactful performances,” said Signature’s acquisitions manager Begüm Kayacan Parodi, who negotiated the deal with The Exchange’s president of worldwide sales, Nat McCormick. “We are delighted to work with The Exchange again and to be releasing the film in multiple territories.”

Produced by a team of industry veterans, The Absence of Eden boasts an impressive lineup of producers, including Oscar nominee Julie Yorn and Marco Perego under Pioneer Pictures, as well as Alexandra Milchan, Robert Kravis, and Karl Herrmann. Executive production is led by Scorsese alongside Rick Yorn and Cinestar Pictures, the production company founded by Zoe, Mariel, and Cisely Saldaña. Other contributors include Ingenious Media, Ashland Hill Media Finance, and Sycuan Tribal, with Ruben Islas, Jolene Rodriguez, and Stanley Preschutti also joining the production team.

The Absence of Eden is anticipated to resonate globally with its powerful exploration of border issues and human resilience, supported by a cast and crew of high-profile talent.
