The 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa is breaking new ground by bringing cinema to unconventional venues. In collaboration with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), and Picturetime Digiplex, this year’s festival introduces inflatable theaters as part of its lineup. Two 120-seat inflatable theaters will operate on the main festival grounds, alongside a traveling open-air screen that will tour North and South Goa during the festival’s run from 20-28 November. The initiative will showcase a mix of contemporary hits and timeless classics, giving audiences an immersive cinematic experience under the stars. A Diverse Film Slate The festival’s programming blends the new and the nostalgic. Fans can enjoy recent Indian hits like S.S. Rajamouli’s global sensation RRR, Pa. Ranjith’s Thangalaan, and Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan saga, alongside National Film Award-winning titles such as Aattam, Kantara, and Aparajito. The classics lineup includes masterpieces like Satyajit Ray’s Agantuk, Raj Kapoor’s Bobby, and Kundan Shah’s iconic comedy Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. Expanding the Cinema Experience This innovation follows Picturetime Digiplex’s successful ventures at other film festivals, including the Dharamshala International Film Festival, where inflatable theaters screened acclaimed films such as All We Imagine as Light and Sundance winner Girls Will Be Girls. “Our mission is to democratize the big-screen experience,” said Sushil Chaudhary, founder and CEO of Picturetime Digiplex. Highlighting the company’s past work, Chaudhary noted that Picturetime has taken mobile cinemas to remote locations like the Himalayan Film Festival in Ladakh at 11,562 feet and the Tribal Film Festival in Arunachal Pradesh. “This is an attempt to bridge the urban-rural divide with technology and innovation,” Chaudhary added, aiming to bring “big-screen magic” to underserved communities. IFFI is organized by the NFDC and ESG under India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to celebrate cinema.
