Indie streaming platform Dropout is set to launch the second season of its hit show Smartypants, hosted by Rekha Shankar, in early 2025, according to Variety exclusive. With a fresh slate of 15 episodes, the show promises a mix of returning favorites and exciting new faces, including science communicator Hank Green. The new season description teases more quirky brilliance, it read, “Join more secret gatherings of the Smartypants Society! Host Rekha Shankar welcomes new and returning members to share their bold ideas, controversial takes, and unhinged theories in a series of presentations that will change everything you thought you knew about the world.” This season’s impressive guest list includes Alexis Nikole Nelson, Alyssa Limperis, Cameron Esposito, Courtney Miller, Demi Adejuyigbe, Max Burkholder, and Vinny Thomas. The show also boasts appearances by a long roster of talents such as Shayne Topp, Siobhan Thompson, and Anna Garcia, among others. The first season of Smartypants debuted in April 2024, running through August with nine episodes that captured audiences with its offbeat humor and intellectual charm. The second season, which wrapped production last week, expands on this foundation with nearly double the episodes and a wider array of voices. Dropout, the indie streamer known for its unique content, rebranded from CollegeHumor last fall, further cementing its place as a hub for niche entertainment.
