Jared Leto in talks to join cast of JFK conspiracy thriller “Assassination”

Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto is in final talks to join the all-star cast of Assassination, a JFK conspiracy drama co-written by David Mamet and Barry Levinson, reports Deadline. While his deal hasn’t been officially sealed, insiders report it’s close to completion. Leto will be joining a powerhouse cast that includes Al Pacino, Jessica Chastain, Brendan Fraser, and Bryan Cranston.

The film’s plot dives into the life of trailblazing crime reporter Dorothy Kilgallen, played by Jessica Chastain. Known for her fearless journalism, Kilgallen grows suspicious that Lee Harvey Oswald didn’t act alone in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Using her influence and platform, she embarks on a dangerous quest to uncover the truth. Her investigation pits her against formidable adversaries, including the CIA, mafia bosses, and the FBI—each determined to silence her.

Barry Levinson and Sam Bromell collaborated with Mamet on the screenplay. The project is being produced by Corey Large, who is also financing the film, alongside Jason Sosnoff. Executive producers include John Burnham, Bernie Gewissler, Pia Patatian, and Jordan Nott. Cameras are scheduled to roll early next year in Boston.

Patatian, formerly with Arclight Films, is spearheading global rights for the movie under her newly launched company, Cloud 9. She introduced the project at AFM last month. Nicholas Celozzi has also joined the production team.

Leto, born in Louisiana, is renowned not only for his acting but also as the frontman and songwriter for the pop-rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. His acting résumé features critically acclaimed performances in Panic Room, Suicide Squad, Blade Runner 2049, and House of Gucci. He recently starred opposite Anne Hathaway in Apple TV+’s WeCrashed, chronicling the rise and fall of WeWork. Leto’s upcoming projects include Disney’s Tron: Ares, set for release on 10 October, 2025. His portrayal of Rayon in Dallas Buyers Club earned him an Academy Award, Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Actor.
