In a remarkable celebration of unity and mindfulness, the inaugural World Meditation Day was marked with enthusiasm across the Himalayan landscapes under the Himalaya Unnati Mission. The occasion saw spirited participation from youth, volunteers, local communities, and educational institutions, demonstrating transformative power of collective meditation, even in challenging terrains.

The United Nations’ declaration of 21st December as World Meditation Day underscores the growing importance of meditation as a vital practice for every section of society. Addressing the global audience, spiritual leader Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar stated, “Meditation is a necessity, not a luxury. In today’s hectic lifestyle, stress and restlessness have become pervasive, impacting our personality, family, and environment.”

The Himalayan initiative proved an exemplary effort to make this historic day unforgettable. Across 20+ locations, young charyas collaborated with local communities and institutions, demonstrating determination and teamwork. Despite the freezing cold and challenging geography of areas like Pangi Valley in Himachal Pradesh the level of coordination and participation was praiseworthy.

An inspiring highlight of the event was the overwhelming participation of women, with more than 60% representation in all programs. Their active involvement underscored the inclusive and empowering nature of the mission.

The day saw over 4,000 participants, with 1,715 directly engaged by Team HUM and another 2,290 through collaborations with District Training Centers (DTCs). A dedicated effort by youth leaders ensured the participation of diverse groups, including local communities, educational institutions, and women’s organizations.

The resolve to involve 1,100 participants was exceeded, showcasing the collective enthusiasm for mindfulness and meditation as tools for personal and communal growth.

The Himalaya Unnati Mission extended heartfelt gratitude to its youth leaders, women volunteers, and institutional partners for their unwavering support. “Your energy and dedication inspire us to take on new resolutions and make every effort to achieve them,” read the statement from the mission coordinators. In a statement, they said, “Your support gives us energy to take new resolutions and make every possible effort on them.”
