Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto is set to take on his next villainous role as Skeletor in Amazon MGM’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Masters of the Universe. Known for his dynamic and unconventional characters, Leto will embody the iconic skull-faced nemesis of He-Man, played by Nicholas Galitzine.

The project, directed by Travis Knight, brings the fantastical world of Eternia to life with a star-studded cast. Alison Brie will portray Skeletor’s cunning lieutenant Evil-Lyn, while Camila Mendes takes on the role of Teela, He-Man’s loyal ally. Idris Elba joins the cast as Teela’s father, Man-at-Arms.

Skeletor’s villainous entourage includes Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops, and Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man. The ensemble promises a mix of motion-capture CGI and live-action performances, staying true to the fantastical essence of the 1982 toy line and its beloved 1983 animated series origins.

Chris Butler, who collaborated with Knight on Laika’s upcoming Wildwood, penned the latest draft of the screenplay, following earlier contributions by David Callaham and Aaron and Adam Nee. Produced by Escape Artists and Mattel Films, the movie is slated for a 5 June, 2026, release.

For Leto, the role of Skeletor continues his streak of memorable villains, following his punk-rock Joker in Suicide Squad, his sinister CEO in Blade Runner 2049, and the titular anti-hero in Morbius. Fans can also anticipate his upcoming lead role in Disney’s Tron: Ares alongside Evan Peters and Greta Lee.

The original Masters of the Universe live-action adaptation, released in 1987, featured Frank Langella as Skeletor, transformed through makeup, opposite Dolph Lundgren’s He-Man. This latest iteration aims to blend cutting-edge technology and Knight’s storytelling expertise to reinvent the saga for modern audiences.
