Prime Video has announced the launch of Broken Rage, a Japanese Original film directed by the legendary Takeshi Kitano, premiering globally on 13 February. The film will be available exclusively on Prime Video in over 240 countries and territories, further expanding the platform’s diverse content offerings for Prime members. In Broken Rage, Kitano, celebrated worldwide for his distinctive filmmaking style, blends hard-boiled crime action with comedy. The film explores what Kitano describes as “comedy within a violent film,” presenting a dual narrative. The first half unfolds as a tense crime action story, following a hitman caught in a dangerous tug-of-war between the police and the yakuza. In a surprising twist, the second half reimagines the same storyline with self-parody techniques, offering a comedic perspective. This experimental format earned the film a spot in the Out of Competition section at the prestigious Venice International Film Festival 2024, making it the first Japanese streaming production to receive such recognition. Leading the cast is Tadanobu Asano, who portrays a determined detective aiming to coerce Nezumi into becoming an undercover informant in a high-stakes drug investigation. Asano, known for his award-winning role in Shogun (2023), reunites with Kitano after their collaborations in Zatōichi (2003) and Kubi (2023). Nao Omori, a veteran of Kitano’s films including Dolls (2002) and Outrage Coda (2017), joins the ensemble as another detective. The yakuza boss overseeing the drug trade is portrayed by Shidō Nakamura, marking his second collaboration with Kitano after Kubi (2023). Hakuryu, a familiar face in Kitano’s films, plays the young boss, adding depth to the intricate narrative. The film’s cast is further enriched by the presence of Japanese comedic talent, including Gekidan Hitori, Masanori Hasegawa (Nishikigoi), Azusa Babazono, and Mogura Suzuki (Kuki Kaidan), making their debut in a Kitano film. Amazon Original Broken Rage promises to be a unique cinematic experience, blending the intensity of crime drama with the light-heartedness of comedy, all under the visionary direction of Takeshi Kitano. As anticipation builds, fans worldwide look forward to this innovative storytelling journey. #BrokenRage #PrimeVideoOriginal #TakeshiKitano #JapaneseCinema #GlobalPremiere About Author SSZee Media Provider of Quality Entertainment News and Information See author's posts Share this: Share on Facebook (Opens in new window) Facebook Share on X (Opens in new window) X Share on Tumblr (Opens in new window) Tumblr Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window) LinkedIn Share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window) WhatsApp Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window) Pinterest Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window) Email Share on Telegram (Opens in new window) Telegram Share on Reddit (Opens in new window) Reddit Print (Opens in new window) Print Like this:Like Loading… Related Post navigation Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia” to hit Imax for exclusive global run before Netflix debut Dylan O’Brien joins Rachel McAdams for horror-thriller “Send Help”
