John Tiffany’s Wild Rose musical stage adaptation set for London after record-breaking success in Edinburgh

The stage musical adaptation of Wild Rose, directed by Tony and Olivier Award winner John Tiffany, is in active talks for a West End transfer following its record-smashing debut in Edinburgh, reported Deadline in an exclusive.

The musical, based on the critically acclaimed 2018 film starring Jessie Buckley, recently wrapped a six-week, extended run at the Royal Lyceum Theatre where it broke box office records for the venue and drew rave reviews.

Now, producers are setting their sights on London. “Talks are underway, and the hope is that we can bring it to London in the not-too-distant future,” said Fable Pictures founder Faye Ward, who also produced the original feature film. Ward revealed the news while speaking to Deadline at the SCAD Lacoste Film Festival in France last month, where Wild Rose was screened as part of a retrospective.

The London negotiations are being led by Ward, theatre producer Patrick Daly of Caledonia Productions, and Gavin Kalin of Totally Theatre Productions, who also co-produces the show. Ward is serving as executive producer for the stage version alongside Nia Janis of Playful Productions.

The original Wild Rose film, penned by Nicole Taylor and directed by Tom Harper, followed the journey of Rose-Lynn Harlan, a fiery single mother from Glasgow with dreams of becoming a Nashville country music star. The story struck a chord internationally, earning Buckley Best Actress nods at both the BAFTA Scotland Awards and Ireland’s IFTA Awards, and landing the hit song “Glasgow (No Place Like Home)” a Critics Choice Award. The musical adaptation brings new energy to Rose-Lynn’s story with Our Ladies star Dawn Sievewright stepping into the lead role. The cast also includes Scottish stage icon Blythe Duff as Rose-Lynn’s mother and Janet Kumah as Susannah, the wealthy woman who unexpectedly champions Rose-Lynn’s talent after hiring her as a cleaner.
