Sabrina Farji, the acclaimed Argentine filmmaker behind “Fronteras” and “El Paraíso”, is gearing up to introduce her latest medical drama, “Gasp” (“Bocanada”), at this year’s Ventana Sur market in Buenos Aires, running from 1 to 5 December. Described as a “raw and intimate” series, “Gasp” unfolds inside a chaotic primary care clinic on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Farji says the show is ultimately about “finding connection, hope, and a breath of fresh air in the most unlikely places.” Drawing inspiration from U.S. medical dramas such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “New Amsterdam”, “Gasp” promises to merge the narrative depth of prestige television with the grounded emotional realism of Argentinian storytelling. Like Farji’s previous works, it aims to capture the humor, pain, and endurance of everyday lives under pressure. The production will follow an efficient, immersive model, with most scenes shot in a single interior setting—the clinic itself—to heighten intimacy and control. Additional sequences will be filmed in provinces like Mendoza and Córdoba, chosen not only for their attractive production incentives but also for their authentic visual textures. Casting will blend “established, acclaimed actors with emerging talent,” Farji and her creative team shared, to create an ensemble that reflects both “experience and discovery.” Produced under Farji’s Buenos Aires-based banner Zoelle, the series continues the company’s commitment to gender equity and inclusive storytelling. Zoelle’s track record includes acclaimed titles such as “Trópico,” “Ex Casados,” “Fronteras,” “El Paraíso” and “Mariquita”, with upcoming projects like “Bocanada,” “Pasionarias” and a feature on Petrona C. de Gandulfo in the works. The company’s 50/50 production teams and focus on women in creative leadership reflect its ongoing mission to tell stories with authenticity and social conscience. When asked what keeps her returning to medical dramas, Farji explained, “they reveal the world of those who hold our lives in their hands.” “By showing vulnerability, humor, pain, and resilience, these stories explore complex human and social issues,” she added. “We are drawn to powerful, universal stories that retain a strong local identity. Medical dramas allow us to explore both physical and emotional action, pushing the drama to its limits. We believe it is important to bring to the screen impactful stories that reveal the human condition and highlight values such as solidarity, justice, resilience, love, and, of course, a good sense of humor. We produce series with strong drama and comedy as well, with strong female characters, avoiding stereotypes.” As vice president of the Argentine Academy of Film and Cinematographic Arts, Farji says the “Gasp” team is “truly excited” to introduce the project at Ventana Sur. “It fills us with pride and joy to have such a powerful project that combines intense action with humor, and stories of solidarity and resilience, full of humanity. Ventana Sur is essential for us, as it expands the project’s opportunities for co-production and positions ‘Bocanada’ on an international stage and across platforms.” “Gasp” (“Bocanada”) is produced by Sabrina Farji, Maria Vacas, and Octavio Nadal for Zoelle. Farji will also serve as showrunner, director, and co-writer alongside Julia Scarone (“Fronteras”).
