Production is officially underway on Tomb Raider, with Amazon MGM Studios marking the start of filming by unveiling a first-look image of Sophie Turner as the iconic adventurer Lara Croft. The image, released to coincide with the beginning of production, offers an early glimpse of Turner embodying the legendary video game character, complete with visual elements closely associated with Lara Croft’s enduring on-screen and gaming legacy. The series will stream exclusively on Prime Video. Based on the globally popular Tomb Raider franchise, the series follows the globe-trotting exploits of Lara Croft, a world-renowned archaeologist and adventurer whose journeys are defined by ancient mysteries, dangerous terrain and high-stakes discovery. Turner leads an ensemble cast that includes Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein. The series is spearheaded by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who serves as creator, writer, executive producer and co-showrunner. She is joined by Chad Hodge as co-showrunner and executive producer, while Jonathan Van Tulleken directs and also executive produces. Executive production duties are shared across Amazon MGM Studios, Crystal Dynamics, Wells Street Films, Story Kitchen and Legendary Television, with additional producers including Jenny Robins, Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, Timothy I. Stevenson, Dallas Dickinson, Michael Scheel, Matt McInnis and Jan R. Martin. With cameras now rolling, the Prime Video adaptation signals a major new chapter for the Tomb Raider franchise, introducing Sophie Turner’s take on Lara Croft to a global television audience as the storied adventurer returns in serialized form.
