In a major acquisition, Prime Video has secured rights to the upcoming action-thriller series Embassy across six key territories, including the UK, Ireland, Canada, France, Australia and New Zealand, Deadline has reported exclusively. The six-part series is produced by AGC Television alongside Ascendant Fox and Turbine Studios. The series is currently in production and is expected to premiere next year. Distribution is being handled internationally by AGC International, with Prime Video’s UK acquisitions team closing the deal. Filming has now begun across Cologne, Germany and London, UK, as the project continues to build momentum following strong early buzz. The show stars Anna Kendrick, Sam Heughan and J.K. Simmons in lead roles. The cast has expanded further, with actors including Aleksandar Jovanovic, Lydia Leonard, Mitya Savelau, Hasan Akil, James Murray, Luke Treadaway, Stephen Odubola, Katie McGrath, Alexander Karim and Natalie Mendoza joining the ensemble. The geopolitical drama centres on Layla, played by Kendrick, an American diplomat caught in a high-stakes crisis when armed mercenaries storm the U.S. Embassy in London. Faced with a critical decision, she must choose between protecting the ambassador, portrayed by Simmons, or carrying out orders to extract a high-value asset. As tensions escalate, she turns to her estranged former fiancé, Connor Wright, played by Heughan, navigating a race against time in a volatile situation. The series is created and written by Rom Lotan, with John Strickland and Christian Alvart directing. Executive producers include Lotan and Strickland, along with key figures from Ascendant Fox, Turbine Studios and AGC Studios. The deal comes at a time of broader strategic movement within Amazon’s international content division. Just hours before news of the acquisition broke, Amazon announced the appointment of Oliver Jones—formerly of Apple TV+—as Senior Commissioner for UK scripted content. Jones is set to begin the role in May, relocating from Los Angeles to London to work alongside Nicole Clemens, Vice President of International Originals. With a high-profile cast, international production footprint and strong backing from multiple studios, Embassy is shaping up to be a key addition to Prime Video’s global content slate.
