Arlene Nelson is set to direct a documentary series focused on the India’s Women’s Premier League cricket team “UP Warriorz”, revealed during the Asian TV Forum and Market (ATF). The men’s Indian Premier League (IPL) stands as one of the most lucrative properties in global sports. In June 2022, Viacom18, backed by billionaire industrialist Mukesh Ambani, secured digital rights to the men’s IPL for $3 billion in an online auction. Meanwhile, the Women’s Premier League, which launched this year, garnered immense popularity, with city-based team franchise rights selling for $572 million and media rights for $116 million. Recently, Nelson directed the HBO documentary series “Angel City”, which followed the professional women’s soccer team Angel City Football Club in Los Angeles. Nelson is now focused on the UP Warriorz, will be observing the team over the next six months. He will also serve as the executive director for the upcoming docuseries. The Victory Sports Media will be funding and producing the yet-to-be-titled documentary series. It is a recently established sports content company founded by Jai Khanna and Parag Parikh, in collaboration with Dubai’s ART & M and Mumbai’s Capri Sports. Advanced discussions are currently in progress with various international broadcasters and global streaming platforms.
